In Search of Madge Easton Anderson

Juridical Review (2020)(3/4), pp. 175-187

Madge Easton Anderson and the first generation of women lawyers have only now, with the celebration of the first hundred years of women in the law, attracted the interest they deserve. The determined young Glasgow graduate whose court case was her final stepping stone to becoming the first woman solicitor in the United Kingdom in 1920 might have been surprised to find her image printed on t-shirts worn by enthusiastic law students celebrating her achievement at her alma mater a century later and to
hear that women were now in the majority in the Law School. She was not a campaigner, a polemicist or public figure.
