Muriel Findlay was one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow. She was born in Glasgow on 3rd June 1928. Her father C. Eric Findlay was an engineer and owner of Muir and Findlay, Parkhead Boiler Works. Muriel was educated at Westbourne Garden School and at Lowther College, a girls’ public school in North Wales before returning to her home in Bearsden to begin her studies in Law. She matriculated in 1946 and enrolled in Forensic Medicine and Public International Law. Her progress through the B.L. curriculum was smooth and she earned a certificate of distinction in Scots Law before graduating in 1950. It was to be a memorable year. Having also completed an apprenticeship she went on to be admitted as a solicitor and in the same year married Ronald Henry McIntosh. The couple had a family and settled first in Milngavie and later in Bearsden. Muriel died on 29th January 2023 aged 94.
