Marjorie MacFadyen, who was one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow, was born in Pollockshields on 21 April 1924. Her father, George, was a master mariner and the family had connections to Tiree. Marjorie was a pupil at Hutcheson’s Grammar. She began her studies in the Arts Faculty in 1941 and enrolled in Ordinary French and History. She also studied Geography, Political Economy, Logic and Moral Philosophy which she struggled a little with. This was a generation of women who were impacted by war and she had to report to the Ministry of Labour in October 1944, leaving the conclusion of Moral Philosophy and the beginning of her studies in the Law Faculty until 1946 after peace returned. She graduated LL.B in 1948. With academic study and an apprenticeship completed she was admitted as a solicitor in 1949. In 1954 she married A.J.Branks Wilson, a mining engineer. The couple settled in Bothwell and had a family. Details of her career outside the home have still to be discovered. Marjorie died on 22 November 2019, aged 95.
