79 - Sarah Ann Foster

BL 1946

Sarah Foster was one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow. She was born in Coatbridge on 17th January 1920. Her father William was a joiner. She began her studies in the Arts Faculty in 1939 but continued them in the Law Faculty where she enrolled in Public International Law in 1940, passing in 1945. Her undergraduate record in the next few years suggests that there were distractions to degree exam success in some subjects, perhaps the demands of wartime and a concurrent apprenticeship. She graduated B.L. in October 1946. In 1952 she married John Bell in Coatbridge. Details of her career remain to be discovered. She died in 1980, aged sixty.
