77 - Patricia (Kieron) McKay

BL 1945

Patricia McKay was one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow. She was born in Glasgow on 24th September 1922. Her father, Peter, was a wine and spirit merchant but had died before she began her first year at Glasgow in 1940. At that time the family home was in Maryhill Park. Patricia married Denis Anthony McKay in 1942 during the course of her studies.  Her undergraduate record suggest that her progress may have been disrupted by war, for although she began classes in Civil Law, Law of Scotland and Mercantile Law classes in 1940-42, it was 1945 when she passed. The dates reveal absence rather than failure and there were two years when she was not enrolled for classes. She graduated B.L. in 1945. According to the records of the General Council, which rely on self- reporting of changes, Patricia Mckay continued to live in Glasgow after the war and to work as a law clerk. She died in 1986, aged 63.

Patricia was divorced in 1984. Her sister in law was Isobel Caufield, also one of the first 100 (BL 1944)
