Helen Gibson was born on 25th October 1925 in Rangoon, where her father John was a merchant with the East India Company. Educated in Scotland she became one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow. She matriculated in 1942 and for the three years of her degree course made it look effortless, obtaining good passes in all subjects. She graduated B.L. in 1945 and had completed an apprenticeship before being admitted as a solicitor in 1948. Two years later she married James Crawford with whom she made a home in the Gourock area. She had practised as a solicitor until marriage but details of her career remain to be discovered. She was remembered as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother when she died in Greenock on 17th October 2020, aged 95.
