75 - May Cameron Davies

BL 1945

May Davies, one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow, was born on 19th April 1923 in Glasgow. Her father, Frederick, was a roll turner. With a bursary from the Carnegie Trust she began her studies in 1942, taking classes in Public International Law, Forensic Medicine and Civil Law. She progressed without great difficulty and graduated B.L. in 1945. Having a degree and an apprenticeship behind her she continued to work as a law clerk until completing her professional qualifications by admission as a solicitor in 1950. She continued to live in Glasgow. May was one of the few women to sustain a career in Law up to retirement. She was in practice with Anderson, Young and Dickson, where she became a partner.  She died, aged 78, in Dalry in 2002.
