Beatrice Taylor was one of the first hundred women to graduate from Glasgow University’s Faculty of Law. She was born in Glasgow on 7th September 1922, daughter of Hilda Silverstein and Samuel Taylor. Her father was retired from work by the time she was a student but had been a journeyman tailor. Her passage through the Law Faculty was smooth. She passed all subjects well at the first diet from 1941 onwards and graduated B.L. in 1944, having merited a Distinction in Constitutional Law and Second Place in Evidence and Procedure. In 1948 she was admitted to practise as a solicitor and continued in practice in the following decades.
