Katherine Brash was one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow. She was born in Calcutta, India, on 4th December 1920. Her father, Marshall Graham Brash, was a book publisher, who was born in India and married Florence Cameron in Calcutta in 1914. When Katherine began her studies for the degree of B.L. in 1939 the family home was in Thornhill, Perthshire and she had a place at Queen Margaret Hall in term-time. She had a good academic record, passing all the required degree exams first time and adding Conveyancing as a post graduate candidate a year after she graduated (B.L.1942). Katherine had also served her apprenticeship with a law firm and proceeded to meet the remaining eligibility criteria for entrance to professional practice. Her name was added to the solicitors’ roll in 1944. She married Thomas Leckie, also a solicitor at Glasgow Cathedral in 1949. Katherine died in 2000, aged 79.
