64 - Sheena Margaret Boyd

BL 1942

Sheena Boyd, born in Largs on 27th November 1921 was one of the first 100 women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow. Her mother was Jane Beveridge. Her father, Archibald K.H. Boyd, was a solicitor and banker, whom she followed into the profession. Studying for the degree of B.L. concurrently with serving an apprenticeship she recovered from a weak start in 1939-40 in the classes of Political Economy and Forensic Medicine to settle into a smooth passage through the Faculty, graduating in 1942. She continued to meet all the requirements for professional practice and was admitted to the roll of solicitors in 1948, the year in which she married Robert William Begg. She practised in Largs. Sheena died in 2009, aged 87.
