Isabel Davidson was one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow and one of the very few to be admitted to practise as a solicitor. She was born in Glasgow on 10th October 1906. Her father, Andrew, was a medical practitioner but was deceased before she completed her education. The family home was in Cathcart. Isabel was clear in her matriculation details that she aimed to qualify as a law agent and her undergraduate record testifies to an aptitude to match her ambition. Between 1933 when she enrolled in the classes of Law of Scotland and Forensic Medicine until her last exams in Conveyancing in 1936 she achieved good first-time passes in all her subjects while satisfying the demands of an apprenticeship. She graduated B.L.in 1936 and in the same year successfully petitioned the Court of Session for admission to the profession as a solicitor. She became a partner in A.C. Baird, McKenzie & Co. She died in Edinburgh in 1986, aged 79.
