Marion Clarkson, one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow, was born in Glasgow on 16th May 1912. Her father, William, was a paint manufacturer. The family home was at 8 Botanic Crescent. Marion studied both Arts and Law, her choice of subjects integrated so that she was able to carry forward passes in Political Economy and Constitutional Law from Arts (M.A. 1933) to Law (LL.B. 1935). She was a good student and merited a second class certificate in Constitutional Law and History. After gaining what was regarded as the academic ‘gold standard’ for proceeding to a legal career and serving an apprenticeship, she continued to work as a law clerk. She passed Conveyancing the year after graduating. No further details of her employment have emerged as yet, though she did not complete professional qualification as a solicitor by petition to the Court of Session. Marion Clarkson died young, on 13th February 1955 in Edinburgh.
