Jane Walker was one of the first hundred women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow. She was born in Glasgow on 3rd March 1910 to Jean McTaggart and Robert Bryce Walker, County Clerk of Lanarkshire. The family home was at ‘Thomdene’, Aushigramont Road, Hamilton. Jane took an Arts degree en route to Law, first matriculating in 1928 and graduating M.A. in 1931. She began her studies in the Law Faculty in 1930, overlapping her classes in Arts. Despite one or two resits, a common experience when students were satisfying the demands of academic study and life in a law firm as an apprentice, she graduated LL.B.in November 1934. She married Angus Macleod, a Depute Procurator Fiscal on 28th June 1936. She may have continued her legal career in some capacity but did not petition the Court of Session for admission as a solicitor. She died in Edinburgh in 1977, aged 66.
