Anne Wight Graham was one of the first 100 women to graduate in Law from the University of Glasgow. She was a lawyer’s daughter, born in Ibrox, Glasgow, on 29th September 1907. Her father died before she had completed her studies and graduated B.L. (1931). Her academic progress was straightforward and consisted almost wholly of good first-time passes. In her first year (1928-29) she passed Forensic Medicine, Law of Scotland, Conveyancing and Evidence and Procedure. The following year she passed Public International Law and completed her degree with a pass in Civil Law in 1931. At the same time she would have been serving an apprenticeship in a law firm. Like most of her cohort of women graduates, however, she stopped short of completing her professional qualification by petitioning the Court of Session for admission as a law agent (solicitor). She married Ian K. McAlpine. At least part of her married life took her to the United States where her address is listed in General Council records as 1363 Eates Avenue, Chicago. The move was not permanent, however, and Anne died in Glasgow in 1991, aged 83.
