Catherine Muir Jenkins was born at 27 Fotherington Street, Pollockshields, on the 18th November 1906 to Catherine and Allan Stewart Jenkins. She was one of four children still living at that address in 1911, when the census yields a little information about the family. Their father was a butcher, described as an employer and they had a general servant to help run their six roomed home. Catherine was just sixteen when she went up to university in 1922 to study Arts. She graduated M.A. in 1926, LL.B.in 1929. She was among the minority of women law graduates between the wars who went on to obtain a practising certificate and make a career as a solicitor in Glasgow, though curiously did not petition for admission as a solicitor until 1960. Catherine died in 1991, aged 84.
