Lillian was born on 9th April 1901 Margaret (nee Beattie) and Thomas Pringle Mitchell. The family was living then at Braeside Street in Maryhill and her father was a railway clerk. Twenty years later, however, his occupation is recorded on Lillian’s matriculation form as a solicitor, but no longer alive. She graduated M.A. in 1923 as a preliminary to studying Law. Her progress through the Law Faculty was not uniformly distinguished, though she gained first prize in Mercantile Law in the session 1925-26. She graduated LL.B in 1927. Lillian did not continue on a career path to professional qualification, however. She lived and worked as a teacher and educational psychologist in Aberdeen, graduating Ph.D from the city’s university. She died in Wetheral, Cumbria on 29th May 1980, aged 79.
